ANIMALS IN FOCUSThe World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) hosted a major photographic exhibition. ‘Animals in Focus‘ opened in London on 9th June 2006 and toured a series of venues in Africa, Brazil, Denmark and Canada during the year. ‘Animals in Focus‘ features a compelling selection of 45 images showing some of the best and worst of man‘s treatment of animals around the world, concerning issues such as the ‘bushmeat’ and pet trade, disaster relief, whaling, bullfighting and factory farming. All pictures were taken by professional photographers and WSPA staff and staff from our Member Societies in the field. Animals Matter To MeVisitors to the exhibition were urged to sign the newly launched Animals Matter to Me petition, which will be presented to the United Nations when 10 million signatures have been reached. Despite the work of WSPA and its partners in the animal welfare movement, millions of animals continue to face a life of toil, mistreatment, cruelty, pain and suffering as a result of human indifference, neglect and a lack of education. It is now time to protect animals from such treatment by officially recognising their importance and their welfare at a global level. Animals themselves, and our treatment of them, matter to everyone. |
